You are beautiful and special just the way you are. I worry, when I hear people talking about themselves, life, and humanity, that too many people don’t realize that about themselves. Self-esteem is such a precious commodity.
At Temple of Inanna and Dumuzi, a spiritual group I co-run, we say, “honor yourself. Honor each other. Honor the Gods. To honor yourself is to honor others… is to honor the Gods. …To dishonor yourself is to dishonor others… is to dishonor the Gods.” It is truly a dishonor to yourself to think anything less of yourself than that you’re beautiful, wonderful, and every bit as special as every other sentient being in the cosmos, because you are!
I know that one of my biggest obstacles with thinking this way was that I worried that it would go to my head, make me egotistical, and somehow that that would corrupt me. The opposite is true.
Morality is part of being beautiful. When we feel good about ourselves, we can clearly see that everyone else around us is precious, because we have the internal wealth to do so. When we pulverize our own self-esteem, we impoverish ourselves and have trouble seeing the beauty of others. Realizing that everyone is beautiful makes us want to be good. The first step is to realize that we are beautiful and extrapolate from there.
Be beautiful! Be good! Honor yourself! Honor each other! Honor whatever you find holy! Be good because you’re beautiful and beautiful because you’re good. Many blessings!
